WELCOME Congressman Raul Grijalva received a boost Thursday at a Congressional hearing for his Southern Arizona Public Lands Protection Act of 2009 (HR2944) when the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its sub agency the US Forest Service (USFS) joined with the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to support his proposed withdrawal of all Coronado National Forest land in Pima and Santa Cruz Counties from future mineral entry. Following is Video from the Congressional hearing. Several Representatives from the Tucson region spoke to support the bill. Robert H from the Hilton Ranch community organization took the time to extract the testimony and put it on Youtube for us. Here they are.
A couple of great YouTube videos by SSSR and Fred Tahse
This site was created to keep the Hilton Ranch Rd community informed about local issues that effect them. Currently the primary issue that effects us is the proposed Rosemont Mine. Check out the Photo slideshow by Bob H click here for slideshow it may take a moment to load, its pretty big (Press ESC to stop the slideshow, or close the browser window). Be sure to take the Rosemont Mine photo tour, also courtesy of Bob H.
For those that do not know what an open pit mine looks like, here's a photo of the Lavender Pit in Bisbee Arizona, it is 1/3 as deep and less than 1/2 as wide as the proposed Rosemont Pit. The yellow line is 1/2 mile showing the width of the Lavender pit. The Rosemont pit will be 1 mile wide and 3 times deeper. Remember that is only the pit, the tailings and waste rock will consume another 6 square miles of our Coronado forest if they approve it.
Please participate. Read about WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP STOP THIS MINE
